The Cavins Model ‘MH’ Combination Gas Anchor and Desander is an improvement upon the Cavins Model ‘G’ “Poor Boy” style gas separator. Its larger upper body is designed to accommodate higher volumes of fluid and gas when used with a sucker rod pump.

The Cavins “Sandtrap” Desander Sub below the gas separator section separates solids from the fluid, which settle by gravity into joints of tubing run on the bottom of the work string as a mud anchor. The clean fluid, free of most solids and gas bubbles, flows up to the sucker rod pump. The Desander Sub is optionally equipped with a funnel for extra-fine solid separation. A funnel is recommended when your well produces any kind of fine, flour, or sugar type of sand (i.e. fine formation sand, iron sulfide etc.).

The Model ‘MH’ separates gas and solids before either can enter the downhole pump. It is typically 17.5 feet long, though it can be custom built to your specifications.

When ordering the tool, it is advised to inform Cavins of the dimensions of the previously used “Poor Boy” gas anchors in the well. In addition, pump rate will be used to properly size sand spiral.
